We all know the world can be strange and sometimes we don’t even have to travel too far to find that out. But the deeper we search the stranger things we’ll find, and the best place to do that is on Google Earth, the program that lets you drop down on a location with the click of a button to see what’s there. Many people go scavenger hunting on Google Earth, and the things they find are bizarre. You can see everything from trucks on their heads to fights in action. Here are 35 of them for you, so you don’t need to go hunting.
Bolivia
This is “La Cueva Del Diablo” or in English, “The Devil’s cage”, which can be found below a steep ravine 3.7 miles east of Potosi in Bolivia. Legend has it that the dark just outside of the cage was left by satan while he was running away from a figure of St. Bartholomew, but believe what you will. The car supposedly has a very eerie vibe about it, if you couldn’t tell that already.
So if you’re in the mood to check something spooky out, hop onto Google maps and take a look for yourself, maybe it won’t spook you out the way it has done for others.
North Macedonia
This might be strange to some and to others, they would just be wondering why people find it strange, because, don’t many people have chairs on their rooves like its normal? This chair on a roof was spotted in Kocani in North Macedonia and it left people to question what the story is behind this interesting find. And perhaps you will only fully understand it once sat in the chair.
We have to look at this from a different perspective because perhaps the view from the chair is what counts, not some random chair on some random roof in Macedonia.
Brazil
We wonder how Google Earth can capture things that are happening like normal day life, sometimes the captures are just too perfect. In Sao Paulo, Brazil. But, this diving board of a bridge is not as it may seem. This board was placed there with a very pale mannequin on it that looks like it is just about to dive. The piece was placed there to raise awareness of river pollution.
They have been trying to get this river Tiete clean for over 20 years, but it still isn’t where it needs to be, so there’s a mannequin on a board to remind them.
Japan
If you drove past this hut, we bet you would also be freaked out a bit. But not as freaked out as you will be when you hear what this actually is. This is in the village of Nagoro in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. As most people left or died in this village, one woman decided to make dolls that represented the people that were there, so this whole village is mostly populated by these dolls.
Only about 27 adults live there now amongst these life-size dolls which just keep being made. And it all started with a scarecrow being dressed in the doll makers dads clothes. Weird.
Florida
This black hole was seen in Stuart, Florida in the USA. Now you may think it's the black hole, but it is literally just a camera glitch from the camera on the satellites or aircraft. Basically, a technical error left the people in Florida frazzled that maybe they had missed something and maybe the weird things they had heard about Florida were true. But no, it was just the images that didn’t come together properly.
But people will believe that they will, that perhaps weird people in Florida fall out of this supposed black hole. It would make a lot of sense, but it’s not true.
Oklahoma
The Stairway to Heaven has been found and it's right in the middle of Oklahoma City in Oklahoma in the USA. This free-flying stairway was spotted and it is a strange thing to see, but there must be some kind of explanation for it. From what we can see, it looks like the bottom of the stairway has come loose, but then when you look at the top, what is it hanging onto?
Perhaps it is the stairway to HR or just a glitch in the matrix. We will go with anything anyone comes up with because this is definitely an unexplainable one.
England
We have come a long way in the world for homosexuals and their rights and now in Redhill, England, there is special parking for gays only, what a step up. We thought maybe it was just a photoshop or spelling error on a “Day Parking Only” sign, but believe it or not, you can buy “Gay Parking Only” signs and this American Autoparts shop must have just put it up for a good laugh.
The American's sense of humor can be a little off. But as long as this sign was all in good faith and support for the LGBTQ community, then they can joke all they want.
Mont Blanc
There are skiing professionals that pay thousand for the perfect shot while high in the sky after a brilliant jump, but this guy got that all for free thanks to Google Earth. The perfect shot may take some time and skills to get, but the satellite cameras got it without even trying. This shot was taken high up in the snowy Alps in Mont Blanc, Europe. What a fantastic view.
The best part of this perfect picture is the two friends just beneath cheering the skier on as he perfects his unplanned pose. It's probably the least strange thing on Google Earth.
Connecticut
This Google Earth capture should be called “This is not going to end well”, because practicing archery like this, does not look like it would end too well. The shot was taken in Wallingford, Connecticut in the USA and we only have one hope, that Google Streetview would have had the end result for us to see, you know just to make sure the archery guy hit the correct target.
The internet can not make this stuff up, and to see how some people can live so dangerously on the edge makes us worry for our future generation. Just kidding… YOLO.
Philippines
Whoever said motorbikes can have airbags, lied because, in Navotas in the Philippines, they have just proved that if there is a will, there is a way. This situation looks quite dangerous and probably should not be tried at home, but when your boss wants yellow balloons for the office party, you have to do what you have to do and you get those balloons there, no matter the consequences.
The Filipinos are known for their weirdly great scooter and bike-driving skills, and if this had been captured anywhere else in the world, we would have been way more concerned.
Gulf Of Mexico
Who knew Google had underwater footage because this surely did not come from a satellite image? Anyways, apparently, they do or did, send divers down to get underwater footage and because of that, we can look at this sunken ship underwater in the Gulf of Mexico. Most people would never be able to see this kind of thing without Google Earth and its amazing ability to capture so much of the unknown.
Without knowing Google Earth searches the depth of the ocean, people may think that this was captured purely because a Google car took a very wrong turn and landed up in the ocean.
Catacombs Of Paris
If Google Earth can go underwater then, of course, they go underground too, well wherever they can go underground. Another place you can view on Google Earth is the Catacomb of Paris, in France. It may just look like a normal underground place, but just look like a normal stoned path, but it actually holds the remains of over 6 million people in an attempt to lighten the load of overcrowded cemeteries in Paris.
At first, it looks pretty cool and normal, but once you what the story behind it, its look changes to something eerier. You never really know what you’re looking at until the truth is known.
Latvia
If Japan can have life-size dolls, then surely Latvia can have them too? Well, surprise, they do. In the lovely little town of Sabile in Latvia known mostly for its hill of wonderful wine mountain, there is also this garden filled with straw dolls. Most of these dolls look alike and each year more and more are added by one woman. There are currently over 200 of them each in their own unique action-like stance.
This garden will be one of those that people would either love to go to, or absolutely not go to. If you wanna have a slight peak though, you can see it on Google Earth.
South Carolina
There are so many things going on in this captured image. A plane in the tree, a fake person-like figure hanging off a pole, and a random bicycle balancing on one wheel on the tracks. The only normal thing seems like the truck driving by. This strange sight is in Winnsboro in South Carolina, USA. The sight of this could cause an accident the way it would make heads turn.
These could just be some random Halloween decorations, or maybe there is another story behind them, but of course, it is a crazy thing you can see on Google Earth.
Mexico
On a street in Turicachi in Mexico, this interesting yet strange kind was spotted. The longer you look the worse it seems to get. Their shoes have a funny spiral thing on the top, the mask is really weird as it looks like an angry face with a black hood on and a beige beard-type bottom, and we can not make out what they are holding in their hands, but it doesn’t look fun.
It is one of those things that if you had to see while driving down the road, you would definitely just keep on driving without even thinking about it twice.
Quebec
Clowns are supposed to be fun things, not something that gives you the creeps and makes you want to run away. A Halloween decoration was spotted in Montreal, Quebec in Canada, and it does not look like a decoration at first, it looks very real and very creepy. It will surely keep the irritating door-to-door salespeople away and probably anyone else who would want to come to visit these people.
Google Earth must be fun and scary to explore during Halloween, the things that you would see would really make for some good entertainment or may even give you a few ideas for your Halloween.
South Africa
Kids love playing in the streets and sometimes they have to get creative with the games they play. In East London in South Africa, it looks like these kids are playing “act dead” and one little girl is even poking the little boy with a stick. It is a strange thing to spot on Google Earth but also a bit funny too. We bet some of the funniest sights on Google Earth involve kids.
This find most likely gave a few people a fright not knowing the whole story behind it or how South African kids love playing in the streets. But it's just light-hearted fun.
Romania
As Google Earth can provide many images from anywhere in the world, so the chances of spotting animals are highly likely. In Arges Country, Romania this bear waiting to cross the road was caught on camera. It is not something you would stop to take a closer look at but it is really cool to see. And the bear also looks a bit strange though and Google Earth just happened to get it.
We would love to know how this situation continued and if the bear did manage to get to the other side safely. We are sure it did because it was looking both ways.
Kinmen, China
When people know Google will be driving around to snap an area, they sometimes do things on purpose so that it could be spotted on Google Earth. This sand-written sign was done in Kinmen in Taiwan, the Republic of China, but it should have actually said “Google beach view” because that would have made more sense. But at least it was caught on camera and his plan worked for the whole world to see.
Each time Google drives around taking pictures, there should be little signs everywhere like this, things people can say that will give people something else to see on Google Earth.
Turkey
The weird Google Earth sights just keep coming and they just keep getting stranger and stranger. In Kusadasi, Turkey this house was spotted with giant alien-like figures on it, and by the looks of the other undressed houses, it wasn’t even Halloween. What makes this even creepier is how the shutters are all closed like they are trying to hide something in that house. Maybe it's to keep something in rather than people out.
The alien on top is holding a pole and maybe it's to get them a better internet connection or to communicate with aliens living in outer space. We’ll never know.
Italy
In Prata Nevoso in Italy, there used to be this massive pink rabbit that looks like it had just fallen out of the sky. The rabbit took 5 years to be knitted by the artist. It was knitted with a soft waterproof material and stuffed with straw in the hopes that it would decompose on its own. The artist thought it would only decompose in 2025, but by 2016 it had already started to.
It is a pity you will not be able to see it anymore but it was cool that anyone could have just popped onto Google Earth and seen the whole thing.
New York
This weird sight looks like a big glitch that happened when the Google car drove passed this area. A weird submarine-looking car and a headless, limbless walking white suit. This was taken in Brooklyn, New York, and although you can see some weird things in Brooklyn, this stuff is just far too weird for words. We are so confused about this white suit just randomly chilling in the air though.
Google Earth can really spot some of the strangest things in our weird and wonderful world, and so far this is definitely the most strange thing we have seen yet.
Ireland
These two women were at the wrong place at the wrong time and wearing probably not their proudest outfits either. They were spotted by a Google car in Dublin, Ireland while on their walk and unexplainably wearing these tight metallic jumpsuits that are so shiny we can see our faces reflecting in them. We aren’t sure what counts as fashion in Ireland, but we are sure this can not be it.
At least these ladies were living their best lives, but it is unfortunate the whole world can now see what they looked like on this glorious day they got all dressed up.
Sweden
Low-budget movies are done all over the world, but it doesn’t look so cool when you’re caught in the act of filming something strange. These guys were filming something that included a chubby Spider-man and Superman somewhere in Stockholm, Sweden. The guys were so happy to see the Google car that they even stepped away from filming to give a big and happy wave at it and Superman tried to fly.
People get far too excited when they see a Google car, but at least these guys were nice about it and did not do anything they should not have done for the camera.
Nevada
If you are having a bad day then just remember this picture and know that your day can not be as bad as this poor train driver's day here. In Wells, Nevada in the USA a Google car was at the right place and time to capture this unfortunate trainwreck leaving a few of the carts piling up on one another. It’s a crazy sight to see and not one we want to see again.
We are sure that the Google car did not stay around to capture this cleanup because they would have missed out on some other crazy things it could go on and capture.
Oklahoma
If trucks could do tricks, this is what they would look like. But as things are almost always not as they seem, this is not a truck that just landed right or had an accident but it is a truck advertisement in Tonkawa, Oklahoma in the USA. This is a clever way to advertise a truck business and has become a way that many companies get their name out there.
Having a big and unique thing like this for your business is also a way of getting further advertising out because if you can see it on Google Earth, then more people can see it.
Micronesia
Casper the friendly ghost is apparently also allowed on the beach and he was spotted in Nauru, Micronesia. It’s a creepy thing to see and has got a lot of talk around it and what it could be. It may also just have been a child who was running around naked and Google tried to take it out, but then how would they make it seethrough enough for you to see the rock through it?
Sometimes people capture spirits on their cameras without even knowing about it and this could very well be one of those moments. We would never know though.
Northern Ireland
There are a lot of things going on here outside this house in Belfast, Northern Ireland and we are sure a few Guinness’ were involved in this two. Two guys look like they have passed out on each other in the driveway, the guys near the door are freaking out and the guy in the green shirt is running towards the cops who are literally just standing there and watching this all go down.
And then on top of all of that the Google car just also happened to be there to watch this all as well. But nothing new or surprising for Ireland.
Lithuania
This is the “Juodasis Vaiduoklis” or The Black Ghost in English and it is on a harbor in Klaipeda, Lithuania. It is a very scary sight that has been scaring little children since it was put there in 2010. The bronze sculpture is hollow on the inside which gives it this cool floating effect. And just like everything else Google can capture for us to see, this tourist attraction was captured too.
There is a legend story behind this black ghost that dates back centuries, so it is not just a random thing that someone put up there to scare little children.
England
Do you know when you buy the knock-off glue to do your children's school projects and then a few days later when you put it on the wall the glued bits slowly start to fall off one by one, well this house is just like that cheap glue. This art installation is in Margate, England, and was created by Alex Chinneck on this house as it was set to be demolished.
The art piece is called From the Knees of my Nose to the Belly of my Toes. Its name is as creative and strange as the house with its sliding facade.
Weird Shape Church
When building a big building it may be a good idea to take into consideration what it would look like from a higher top view. This Church looks like a penis from the top and Google Earth gives you the best view of it. It is a little ironic though because the last thing you would think should look like a penis is a Church. We guess it gives res-erection a new meaning.
We are not sure where this Church is and it is probably better not to know because it would surely have more visitors and not necessarily the ones they’ll want.
Tokyo
In Tokyo, Japan, these students stood perfectly in a line on a sidewalk as a planned Google Streetview prank. They knew that the car would be coming around that day, so they all got their pigeon masks out and were ready to give it their best shot and get captured while the car was coming passed. And now people can have a good laugh at these weird students and their pranks.
It would have been even funnier though if they had at least one other person with a bread mask on. Then it would have been an, even more, entertaining captured moment.
Germany
It would be very interesting if you got to your local grocery store and there was a jet parked in the parking lot because you know, pilots also need to get groceries sometimes. But this was a Mig-21 that was used for some advertising in Hagen, Germany, and was moved around the parking lot while on elevated supports, and that is why cars could still park under it, which we are sure many people did.
When the invasion of Ukraine started, they covered the jet up in some tarp as a symbol of support for Ukraine. If you look at it now, you’ll just see a big tarp piece.
Jerusalem, Israel
In Old City, Jerusalem this man with a massive tray filled with fresh bread was spotted by the Google car. Now if he was walking passed the pigeon people in Japan, it could have been quite the perfect situation to spot. But thinking about it, the birds would have a field day on this guy's head if they just gave it a chance to try and take some of it.
This is the way a lot of bakeries transport and sell bread in Jerusalem and they often have a massive variety of bread or baked items to buy from them.
South Korea
In Gyeongju, South Korea they have put up a headstone for Internet Explorer with the funniest and most true saying on it “He was a good tool to download other browsers”. This picture was loaded by someone who went to view the headstone, which is how a lot of other Google Earth sights are shared. This find is not that strange, but it is quite humorous for us to see.
Another funny part of this image is how people have left flowers and notes at the headstone. Some people make situations even funnier by doing these little things that we know aren’t that serious.
