No matter the movie, there will always be people who either love it or hate it. That’s just the way it goes with movies. But then there are some movies that are just so bad, that they are quite entertaining. This doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s great! It could be an action movie, a comedy, a drama, or any other genre. But the one thing that they all have in common is that despite how bad the writing and acting are, they are so much fun to watch. We’ve put together a list of some of these movies. Sit back, relax, and have fun scrolling through these movies
Spice World
The Spice Girls were huge in the 90s! So, it makes sense that they were given the chance to make a movie. What’s great about it is that nothing in the movie made the slightest bit of sense. There were aliens and haunted buildings. It was all over the place! And while no one would even begin to recommend Spice World for an Oscar, they would suggest it for a movie night with friends.
When you’ve sold as many records as the Spice Girls did at the time, we’re not sure that it matters what kind of movie you make. They were unstoppable back then.
Battlefield Earth
We’re not always sure how some movies get the funding that they do. Nothing about the premise of Battlefield Earth even remotely sounds good, but that didn’t stop it from getting made. In the film, John Travolta plays a massive alien.
It was cheesy and poorly made, but that’s part of the reason that many people seek it out today. If you need a good laugh, then this one's for you!
Surviving the Game
Movies about rich people behaving badly have a way of drawing the attention of people. We hear about rich people, but we don’t always get to see how they live. But in the film Surviving the Game, Gary Bussey is one of a few rich guys who is trying to hunt Ice-T. It’s a strange plot and an even stranger film. We’re not sure what was trying to be accomplished with this film.
A movie about people hunting people seems like it could be really interesting, but this film just didn’t have the quality that was needed to be a good movie to gain an audience.
Mission: Impossible II
The Mission: Impossible movies are loved by so many people. Tom Cruise is incredible, and the stunts and action always become huge talking points. But in Mission: Impossible II, there was some of the worst movie making ever. So much of what the viewer sees is action shots without much context. The story lacked in just about every way. It seems like the director just went with every action movie cliché he could find.
This won’t do anything to ruin the movie franchise’s legacy, but it was a bit of a stain on the franchise’s name. Luckily, the franchise has rebounded and is on the up and up.
Nothing but Trouble
Dan Aykroyd is mostly known for his work in the Ghostbusters films. But in his film, Nothing but Trouble, he and Demi Moore get stuck in a haunted house and are forced to deal with all the creepiness that comes with the situation. At one point, Tupac Shakur even makes an appearance. The acting is not so bad, but the story and the all-over-the-place plot have to be mentioned too.
This is the epitome of a good bad movie. This movie makes almost no sense, but people love to watch it for that reason. Sometimes that’s all it takes to be entertaining.
Demolition Man
The 90s loved bad movies. And one of those was Demolition Man. The movie had a great cast. Sandra Bullock, Wesley Snipes, and Sylvester Stallone were in the film. A movie with a cast like that probably isn’t hard to sell, but the result was horrible! The dialogue, the acting, and of course, the plot, were all bad. But now, when people look back at it, it’s something that people love to laugh at.
This is one of those films that would be great to get a lot of friends together and watch. It would be so funny and lead to some hard laughs from everyone.
The Chase
Some movies don’t need to be made. The Chase, which stars Charlie Sheen and Kristy Swanson, is one of those films. In the film, Charlie Sheen is on the run. He’s a party clown who has been wrongfully accused of committing a string of robberies. That’s a hell of a plot right there. Sheen takes Swanson hostage, they go on the run, they dodge police, and of course, they end up falling in love.
If you haven’t seen this film, then you should watch it once just to see how bad it is. After that, don’t watch it again. It’s really not that good!
The Last Action Hero
Arnold Schwarzenegger was at the height of his fame when The Last Action Hero came out. He was nearly unstoppable, so it made sense for him to take on something like this. And while the film isn’t horrible, it’s cringy. There’s just a little too much going on in the film, and the film tries too hard to take itself seriously. Some people won’t agree that it should be on the list.
No one can ever deny that Schwarzenegger is one of the biggest movie stars of the 90s, but even the big stars sometimes have some flops. This is one of them for him.
The Happening
M. Night Shyamalan is a director who likes to create movies that make the audience think. Unfortunately for him, they do not always come off that well. The Happening is a film that is about the environment killing people. It’s a slow and boring movie. It’s a movie that you’ll watch and wonder how it was allowed to be made. But we think it’s a warning about climate change. Maybe.
It takes a lot to make a movie, so we can’t be too hard on M. Night Shyamalan. But so much of what he makes just doesn’t make sense or comes out how he expects it to.
Gigli
Ben Affleck has been in a lot of films, but no one will ever forget Gigli. There is no way that a movie like this could be made today. A big point of the film is trying to get a lesbian to become straight. But what made the movie really stand out was the fact that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were in it. People went to see the film and they hated it.
Catwoman
Halle Berry is a phenomenal actress. She has an Oscar! But just like other actors and actresses on this list, sometimes you take on a role and it just doesn’t come out the way you want it to. That’s what happened to Berry in Catwoman. Everyone was so excited about the film, but it just went downhill so quickly. The story, acting, and just the all-around awkwardness of the film. What a shame!
Nowadays, people just watch this film to get a good laugh. Who could blame them? That's all the film is really good for. There have been much better Catwoman portrayals since this came out.
Con Air
When people think of Con Air, Nicolas Cage’s hair is probably one of the first things that come to mind. Nicolas Cage has been wrongly convicted and is also on a plane full of felons who he must fight. This movie has it all: bad acting, bad writing, horrible dialogue, and some very sketchy action. People love to laugh at this now, but it was taken seriously in the 90s.
Nicolas Cage is one of the most well-known actors of our time. He’s been around forever, and he always seems to get work. He has some serious talent, but he is often in strange roles
The Room
The Room is the definition of what it means for a movie to be so bad that it’s good. This movie has a plot, but we’re not sure that anyone has been able to figure it what it is. Not only that, but the acting is also what takes the cake for the film. There are people making films in their homes that are better than this. With that being said, please watch this!
If we had the power, we would make sure that people watch The Room once a month. It’s so odd and funny. It’s something that everyone truly needs to see before they die.
Troll 2
Some films are so bad all we can think about is what the directors and writers were even thinking about. In the 80s there was a film called trolls, which, as you can guess, was bout trolls. But Trolls 2 has nothing to do with that first film. If you are confused, then you should be. Watch this movie and you will move it up in your list of worst movies ever!
We’ve never made a movie, so we can’t talk about how hard it is to do, but this is trash. The money that was spent to make this movie should’ve been spent on something else!
Road House
In the 80s, Patrick Swayze was everywhere! He had the look, the hair, and the acting ability. And in 1989, he was in the film Road House. The film’s plot is odd, to say the least. Swayze is a guy who goes around America ridding bars of bad owners. He travels to Missouri where he must deal with a bar owner who drives a monster truck. It’s a lot to take in, but it’s interesting.
This is a movie that you should watch if you’re sick and in bed. Maybe your hallucinations and delirium from the fever you are dealing with will make it make sense.
Fear
1996’s Fear is an overall bad movie, but there is a scene between Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon that has kept this film in the public eye. It’s one that many people will know. To put it simply, the two of them get intimate on a Ferris wheel. It is a scene you can’t look away from. The looks they share are kind of awkward and uncomfortable for a viewer.
These two actors have gone on to make so many more movies over the years. We’re sure they still remember this one, but we wonder if they wish they could forget it.
Mortal Kombat
Video games were still somewhat new in the 80s and early 90s. And there wasn’t a video game that grabbed the attention of the public as much as Mortal Kombat. Whether you hated it or loved it, it was everywhere. In the Mortal Kombat movie, there is a secret tournament of the greatest fighters in the world. Sounds good, right? Well, when you see the acting and special effects, you may think otherwise.
This film holds a special place in the heart of so many gamers and non-gamers out there. It’s kind of a funny movie when you watch it. We may need to give it a watch now!
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie
Kids in the 90s were spoiled with cartoons and action heroes. And there really wasn’t a bigger group of action heroes at the time than the Power Rangers. So, when the film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie came out in the early 90s, people were excited. Now, looking back at the film, we can see that it wasn’t that great. It was full of one-liners, exaggerated action scenes, and some iffy villains.
There is a group of 30-year-olds who would probably go to war for this movie. It meant so much at the time they don’t care about how much people seemed to hate it.
Deep Blue Sea
Deep Blue Sea is a movie about bloodthirsty sharks. But it really should be renamed “Samuel L. Jackson gets eaten by a shark.” Because that’s the only part of this movie that anyone cares about. There is a lot of bad acting and writing, but there is a scene when Jackson is giving a speech and then is eaten by a horrible CG version of a shark. It’s corny, hilarious, and so bad.
Watch this one with a big group of friends and you will have the time of your life. It’s so funny when that scene comes up. You’ll want to watch it a few times over.
Honey
Honey probably helped start the sexual awakening for a lot of people in the early 2000s. But despite that, the movie was horrible. Jessica Alba is very talented, but that talent was not on display in this film. One of the best things about this film was the soundtrack and all the cameos. There were a lot of singers and rappers who were popular at the time who were in this film.
We’re not sure how many people watched Honey, but we’re sure they were all there for the same reason: Jessica Alba. She was hard not to watch in the early 2000s.
XXx
Vin Diesel is an action superstar. So, when xXx came out, no one was at all surprised to see him in it. But this movie is like a regular action movie took steroids and tried to be the biggest, loudest, and most violent action movie to ever exist. There are no redeemable moments. But if you want to see car chases, some stunts and explosions, then this film is for you.
Diesel will go down in history as one of the great action stars to ever exist. He knows what he’s good at and he sticks to it. But xXx was a low point for him.
No Holds Barred
The 80s had absolutely no fear of making a cheesy film. And to be honest, that pretty much was a huge selling point during that period. So, when No Holds Barred came out, it was the height of everything the 80s loved: strong men, horrible one-liners, and acting that was downright embarrassing. Hulk Hogan starred in this movie, and that should really say all you need to know about its quality.
Wrestling was huge in the 80s, and to have a big name like Hulk Hogan do a film would have been massive at the time. But this film is bad.
Showgirls
Paul Verhoeven has made his name as a director by making films that get people talking. Most of the time, they aren’t talking in a positive way, but they are talking and that’s what matters. His film Showgirls is lightly pornographic, and that’s part of the public’s obsession with it. The other part is that it is just bad. There is no other way to put it. The film is pointless in every way.
All we can say about this one is to watch it for yourself. Once you do that, then you will know what we are talking about. This film needs to be seen to be believed.
She’s All That
She’s All That was just one of many 90s movies that were adored by the public. But when you sit back and look at it, there is so much that’s wrong with it. There is bullying, sexism, pranks that are probably illegal, and so many other things that are bad. But this film has gone down as a big hit with people who grew up with it. It’s a fun movie, but so problematic.
Everyone in this film went on to have a good career. We would be interested in learning about how they feel about this film now that it’s been out for so long.
The Beach
There are films that seem to have no real platform on which they stand. That’s what The Beach is. It has an incredible cast with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tilda Swinton, but it’s just not much of anything. Sometimes movies are impacted by when they come out. That seems to be the case with this film. We’re sure if the writers and directors could go back to the drawing board they would.
With two lead actors like that, you have to imagine if there was something else that made this movie bad. This could be a good film for a director to make again.
Speed 2: Cruise Control
Speed: 2 is a bit of a wild movie. A lunatic takes over a cruise ship and makes those who are on it, hostages. It’s an extremely 90s movie in every way possible. It’s so bad and so weird that it’s actually kind of good. One of the main strong points is that it stars Willem Dafoe and Sandra Bullock. It’s a sequel, but it is nowhere near as good as the original Speed.
Sandra Bullock stars in this one, just like she did the first one. The film could have been so much better. It’s nuts how much better the original movie is.
Over the Top
Over the Top is a film about a man who arm wrestles. That’s it. There is a man who is trying to get closer to his son who he abandoned as a kid. So, to do that, he arm wrestles. It’s just as strange as it sounds, but it was the 80s and things like this seemed to have made sense back in that time. Sylvester Stallone stars in the film.
Stallone is a man’s man. He is a big macho man in every way, so this movie makes sense that he was in it. But it doesn’t make the movie even close to being good.
Final Destination
The Final Destination movies definitely scared its audience. The movie was good at doing that, but when you sit and think about all that happened in the film, it is really unbelievable. But even today, there are people that still talk about just how much of an impact the film seemed to have on them. We wouldn’t suggest this film if you are getting ready to go on a flight.
This is a bad film that came out at a good time. People latched onto it like crazy. But looking at it now, it’s not a great film. It’s not something we would take seriously today.
Anaconda
Snakes are creepy. Most people would probably agree with that. But in the film Anaconda, the snake is made to be massive. So massive, that it isn’t even scary, it’s just funny. This film follows a group of people who are in the Brazilian jungle, doing their best to avoid this massive creature. It has horrible writing but some funny death scenes. Check it out if you can find it.
The 90s loved a movie about a random animal that was so big and strong that it just had to terrorize everyone. That is pretty much the premise of this film.
White Chicks
White Chicks Would probably be seen as offensive today, and rightfully so. The film has its funny moments, and moments that people have been mentioning ever since the film came out in 2004. In the film, the Wayans brothers cloak themselves as sisters Brittany and Tiffany Wilson. After that, a whole mess begins to happen. It is a funny movie, but it is very, very dumb. You will feel dumb after having watched it.
When this first came out, people loved it. It may have not done well in theatres, but people wouldn’t stop talking about it and quoting it. You watch it and decide if it's good or not.
Batman & Robin
If you ask us, there are too many Batman movies. The difference with this one is that it stars Robin. In the film Batman and Robin, the duo is squared up against some foes to save the city. It’s hokey, but it has a following because of that. The film stars, George Clooney, Uma Thurman, and Alicia Silverstone. That’s a talented group of actors. It’s a shame they couldn’t make a good film
Sometimes a film franchise tries to do something different, and it just doesn’t seem to work out. That’s what happened to Batman and Robin. It had potential, but it fell flat.
Masters of the Universe
Low budget films can sometimes be good, but a lot of the time they are bad. This is what happened in Masters of the Universe. There isn’t one redeemable aspect of this film. The special effects are bad, the acting shouldn’t be mentioned, and the plot is all over the place. If you enjoyed He-Man, then this film is for you. It doesn’t offer much, but people seem to like that.
Once again, we see that the 80s were all about just tossing money at films and not caring about what came from it. This is a movie that should be banned in every country.
Congo
Congo is essentially a film about a hunt for treasure. The group of explorers is in search of King Solomon’s mines. The best part of the film, and trust us, there are not too many, is the fact that the group is traveling with a big gorilla that is capable of communicating with humans. The gorilla is truly the only thing in this film that you will want to see.
Any animal that is capable of communicating with humans is good enough to get our attention. This movie is so bad that it’s really entertaining. We’re not sure if we should congratulate the director or not.
Wild Wild West
Will Smith is a huge name now, but in the 90s he was everywhere! When the film Wild Wild West came out, everyone thought it was going to be another hit. There were advertisements everywhere; there were even toys for the movie. But when it came out, it fell flat. The film just didn’t have the same grip on society as so many of Smith’s other films. We beg you not to watch this.
The best part of this movie was that Will Smith made a song with Sisqo for the album. That was easily the best part. We’re sure people still listen to that song today.
Godzilla
The Godzilla franchise has seen a lot of changes over the years. But in 1998, Godzilla made its return to the big screen. There were commercials for the film, toys, and so much more. There was huge hype for this film. And a lot of people loved the film at the time, especially kids. But as people grew older and started to watch the film again, they realized it didn’t make a lot of sense.
it’s a shame that it’s number one on this list. But we’re going to take it as a good thing. This movie means a lot to us, no matter good or bad.
