Kids are such a blessing in their parents’ lives. Not only are they filled with innocence and pure love, but they also keep their parent's hearts jolting with the weird and wonderful things they get up to. They also always keep their parents on their feet because of all the things they cannot do for themselves. We’ve put together a list of memes that really depict how it is being a parent. From life hacks that are questionable and real-life images of what being a parent is like, they will all leave you either laughing…or crying because you can relate.
Geniuses
Before you judge this mom for what she has done, just appreciate the geniuses around the idea. Parents will know, there is nothing more annoying than when your kid calls out to you throughout the night for something to drink. This mom had enough of it and bought her kid a big water feeder and attached it next to the bed so that there is no longer a reason to call her for water.
The best part is that something like this only costs $10 and any parent who implements this idea, will not regret it. And we won’t judge you for it either.
Irrelevant Questions
Kids can be really clever, they know exactly when to ask the most irrelevant questions just to get out of something they really do not want to do. This meme explains this very clearly. Any parent will know that when you ask your kid to do something, they will ignore the command and then ask something completely different, like “why is grass green” just to try to get out of it.
Most of the time the questions they ask seem so absurd that you almost question your child's knowledge. But do not be fooled, they know exactly what they are doing.
Red Handed
Absolutely nothing runs faster than a toddler who has just been caught putting something in their mouth that they have most likely found on the floor. And yes, they do look exactly like this speeding chicken in this meme. Toddlers should have their own Olympic sport for this because some of them run as their lives depend on it regardless of the filthy junk they have just inserted into their mouths.
Parents will know this and if you’re a parent-to-be, be prepared for this too. It is inevitable that your toddler will run for the hills the second you know something strange is in their mouth.
Valid Point
If you do not have kids, you do not understand the real struggles that parents have to go through. The mom from this meme makes such a valid point, that even if you think you can do better when you have kids of your own, you probably can’t. Luckily each person's kids are different and parents never know what they are going to get in terms of their child's personality and mannerisms.
People mostly judge parents who give their kids screens to watch shows while in restaurants, but they don’t understand that kids cannot be peaceful and eat their food without something keeping them glued down.
Ultimate Independence
If you ever want to have a good laugh, let your child have the ultimate independence of dressing themselves for a day. You may think this meme is a joke, but the chances of your kid looking very similar to this are quite high. When kids get to dress themselves, they go for the most sparkly, patterned, smallest fitting clothing they can find and then pair it with a tiara and some plastic dress-up heels.
Your kid may look like all four seasons threw up over a princess Christmas tree, but the joy it will bring them to know they chose it all themselves will be worth it.
Potion Creations
Usually, when kids are left to bathe on their own for a little while, parents know to take out any bottles of soap, shampoo, bubble baths, and creams because this meme is all too true. Most of us made bathtime potions when we were younger, so it only makes sense that your kids would too, and because they don’t pay for the products, they have no care to waste a whole bottle on potion creations.
The funny thing is that no matter how much you tell your kids not to do it, the more exciting it is for them to find bottles of things to make potions in secret.
What the
We’re sure all parents wished they were given a handbook on how to raise different ages when their kids are born, especially those teenage years. If people think raising a newborn is hard, just wait until they hit 16 years, because that's where the real fun starts. With girls, the hormones bring on outbursts, crying, and unexplained emotions, and with boys, they act out and become more aware of their hormones and act on them.
Anyone who is raising teenagers can probably relate to those last three words of this mom's post. As long as they just know, they are not alone in their ignorance.
Exorcism
A lot of moms long for these bonding moments that include hairstyles and girly things, but you see, most little girls who have long hair for girly hairstyles also have the knots that come along with it. If you think that describing hair time as an exorcism is a bit of an overreaction, believe us, it is not. The screams that can come from your child when a detangler comes out will shock you.
No amount of detangling products would help either, because once that knot trauma has happened, even when there aren’t any knots, little girls can perform like it's the end of the world for them.
Brutally Honest
One thing all kids are is brutally honest. They will straight up tell you that you do not look nice, you are fat, your makeup looks scary and your food is not great. When kids get their personalities and learn that they can respond to things with attitude and unknowing honesty, they use that to the best of their ability. And just like the meme shows, usually, you don’t even ask for it.
Because most parents want their kids to grow up kind, it takes some time to teach them that they can’t just go around and call people fat, especially not their own mothers.
Adopted
This meme opens up a conversation about all the things that parents say to their kids when they imply they do not like you or they just don’t behave in an appropriate manner. It may seem harsh to tell your kids that they aren’t adopted because they haven't found anyone who wants them, but parents will understand the joke around it. They most likely have their own saying for their kids too.
It is similar to telling your kids you can put them right back where they came from if they do not start behaving. They don’t know that that can’t happen, but it makes them behave.
Clean Up Time
Kids hate having to clean up the mess which they have made. So when it comes to cleaning, they find other ways to get out of it, especially when there is no supervision. This meme seems valid because if you have left your kid in their room to clean when you go check on them, they have found new things to play with and the mess has seemed to double in size in tqhe process.
It is great to see kids using their imaginations and playing with items they have found during their so-called cleaning process, but will they ever learn to separate the two?
Young and Beautiful
If you are not a parent, you will most likely not catch the joke in this meme. Parenting ages people a few decades, so parents will feel like they are 75 years old when they are still just 27. If parents start going grey after having kids, most of the time they blame it on their children with that common saying “you give me grey hairs”. And the more kids, the more grey hairs.
Parenting is extremely stressful and thank goodness it does not actually make people look double their age, but they can all agree that it does make them feel that way.
Perception
When parents yell at their kids in public, it can be perceived in two ways, one being by people who do not have kids, and the other being by people who do. People who don’t have kids will likely look in disbelief and shock. And for the people who do have kids, well, this meme just sums it up perfectly, because some parents don’t have the guts to shout at their kids in public.
Kids are also smart in this sense, they will push their parent's buttons further in public because they know the chances are slim they will be reprimanded. They’re sneaky little things.
Mama
This statement could not be truer. Even after people have their own kids, their own moms are still very much needed in their lives, if not more so. Being a mom has no time limit, even if your child is in their 50s, they will still have that feeling of needing their mom. People only realize this when they’re out of the house, and mostly when they are sick too.
If you’re lucky enough to have a good relationship with your mom, the need for her won’t disappear, even after she is gone. And if you’re a mom, your kids will always need you too.
Aaaaaahhhhhh
For those who do not have an Apple watch, they have this cool feature where you can get sent a notification when the environment you are in is too loud, to protect your hearing. It's a great feature, but with a baby around, it may be best to have the feature switched off so you do not get a warning every time your baby cries. We knew babies were loud, but not this loud.
For any parents who think they are going deaf, it may just be from those first few years of your child's life that have caused it. We would suggest earplugs for any new expecting parents.
Maternity Shoots
Maternity shoots can be really beautiful and leave moms with a lifelong memory of the time they carried their child. But, when mom's hormones make her feel insecure and she does not want to do the already paid shoot, dad can always step in just as this one did. Luckily he had the belly to go along with it, and he really pulled off the pregnant mom look all too well.
When these parents' child is old enough to understand, these photos will really make for a great story. Especially when they have friends over and dad needs to do his part of embarrassing them.
Dad Stare
When it comes to parents, there is usually a good cop and a bad cop. Not that both won’t discipline, but moms are usually the ones who yell and punishes and dads just give that one look, and the kids just know that if they don’t change their act, it's gonna go down. That look that dads give works even better than being yelled at and that's why they do it.
This meme with Samuel L. Jackson is truly how that “dad look” can come across. Dead straight piercing eyes, with the only emotion present being that of an emotional whopping.
Angel Papa
If your parents are still around when you have kids, you will be able to relate to this meme. When parents are raising their kids, especially dads, they can be strict and stern and a little hard sometimes, but the second you have kids of your own, it's like your dad becomes this other person. They are soft and sweet and start talking in baby talk with the tone of an angel.
Grandparents will let your kids get away with anything and they will spoil their grandchildren with all the things they want in life. Nothing like when they raised you though.
Overreacting
Mothers can be known for overreacting in situations that seem quite simple to their teenage kids, but then again, teenagers can also be quite nonchalant. We are sure a few people can associate their teenage years with this meme. When teenagers' rooms are untidy, moms go off like it looks like a dumpsite, just because there are clothes everywhere, 2-week-old dishes on the desk, and the windows haven't been opened in days.
When put into perspective, we guess we can understand how mothers can see the similarities, but it does seem a little over the top still, even though mothers know best.
Drunk Octopus
Kids can’t go to sleep and wake up in the same position, let alone the same side they were sleeping on. This meme is too true, you can take a nap with your kid and you will wake up and find him lying over you with his head in the opposite direction to what it was in when you lay him down. We’ll never understand how kids can move around so much in their sleep.
But every parent also knows, it's a dream to have their kid sleep for a little while, so no matter how they land up, they’ll stay there until it's time to wake up.
Swearing
We know that kids swearing is not right, but, one can not help but laugh at kids when they do. It's bad, but it is sort of cute at the same time. When this mom's 3-year-old yelled at school pickup and threw in a swear word too, it must have embarrassed her terribly. However, we are sure the other moms there have experienced something similar too and just knew how she must've felt.
Kids pick up everything from their parents, and when words start flowing, they tend to pick up the worse words first. They’ll say a swear word before they pick up the word “mommy”.
Fat
Something anyone who has kids can relate to is the feeling of being “fat” when you weren’t and feeling “tired” when you hadn’t been doomed with the exhaustion that comes after having kids. Having kids can slow down the healthy process parents yearn to have and then they really realize what being fat feels like and being tired just becomes the normal way of life where sleep is a luxury.
Luckily the chubby feeling and the exhaustion does not last forever, only 16 or so years, and then things should get back to the way they were before parents had kids.
Beautiful
This statue is a beautiful representation of that parenthood is like. Your kids are made up of little pieces of you and that is what makes them into the people they grow up to be. People do not realize how much blood, sweat, and tears go into bringing up a child and how important it is to be a good role model for them to look up to and want to be like.
Some people may not understand the true meaning of this statue, but if they have children of their own one day, then it will all make sense for them to understand.
Nice Things
This text message exchange is hilarious because a lot of parents feel this way, if they can not have nice things then neither can the kids. However, we bet there are a few parents out there who also build forts with the kids and enjoy it a whole lot more than the kids do. With having kids, come great sacrifice and the enjoyment of things comes in child-like creations and games.
Although parents would rather enjoy having a quiet night with a glass of wine, so we understand why this parent would want to break up the kid's fort if they’re not involved in the fun.
Family Day
Having one kid can feel like a lot on a parent, but having 4 kids is like trying to build a house in a tornado storm. Parents are not perfect and when a lot of kids are involved in not cooperating in the proceedings of leaving the house, then usually the parents tend to take it out on each other. Once they’re out the house, then you’re left with the exact situation in this meme.
Any parent knows how hectic it gets when you need to get a kid out of the house though. The simple task of putting on shoes causes all hell to break loose.
Reality
People who decide to have more than one kid always think that it will be a breeze. They think that because they have had practice with the first one, the second and third ones will go a lot easier. But kids learn to gang together and make situations as complex as possible, but all in a different way. It's almost like trying to tame raptors just so you can get through bathtime.
The top image of this meme is possible, but something like that will only come once in a blue moon. If you’re thinking of having multiple kids, just be prepared for the bottom image too.
Not Smart Enough
Kids can be smart, but not smart enough to realize that when mom has been tired for the same amount of years that they have been alive, that maybe they are the reason why mom is so tired. It should be no surprise to parents that they will have a few years of being tired after having kids, so they should also not expect too much from their kids in that sense.
We just think that parents did not expect the tiredness to happen in that way. It is a lot worse than staying up past 2 am when they were 22-years-old.
Alone Time
Moms do not get any alone time after having kids, and to make matter worse for the mom this meme is about, the pets can’t seem to leave her alone either. It's both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because a least she can know she is wanted and important to all the small creatures in the house, including her daughter and it is a curse because she can’t even get 5mins alone.
Nowadays, moms have set out “me time” and people do not realize how important the “me time” really is. Maybe this meme will put it into better perspective for them.
Tiny Vacations
It's the small things that count in life, and for parents, even the slightest amount of quietness can do the world of wonders for them. It may seem a little over the top to relate the walk from closing your kid's door to opening your door in the car as a carnival cruise, but when you have your own kids, that short moment of glory will have the same impact on you too.
Tiny vacations can be found all over a day with kids. Toilet breaks are a dream, hanging washing outside is a blessing, and that moment you sleep right before your kid calls you is golden.
Oh No
When people have young kids, they will tell them that they will live at home as long as they want to and they never have to move out, but as soon as they hit those teenage years, that thought changes. This mom appreciated that her son said he would live with her until he is 60, but she knows that his teenage years are coming up too and 60 years is a long time.
Parents do want their kids to move out at some stage to spread their wings and live in the world. But we all know there will always be a place at home if need be.
Smart
This dad who challenged his kids to draw him while he was sleeping had cracked the code of keeping kids busy while he can also take a nap. The only probably with this is that if you have mischievous children, the chances that they will stay there the whole time while you sleep just to draw a silly picture, are slim. But if you have competitive children, then this should work.
It's quite funny though because only a dad would think up something like this. They always do seem to find a loophole in getting what they want and watching the kids.
Innocence
A kid’s innocence can make for some good humor, especially when they aren’t aware of words they use which have adult connotations. Just like this 6-year-old not knowing what sex refers to, in both meanings and simply says that his mom had failed at it because she had an “F” next to it. And of course, her husband would find that all too hilarious, hopefully not with too much truth behind the laughs.
We love seeing things kids do and say that come from a complete lack of knowledge of their literal meanings. It makes many serious adult situations seem much less deep.
No We Did Not
A lot of parents would detest the saying “you knew what you were getting into when you had children”. Because believe us, all parents never know what they are getting themselves into because as much as you can teach your child, they will never cease to amaze you with their thoughts and actions. The rest of this meme is proof of that because no one expected their kid to lick feet.
Having kids is like getting a Kinder Joy Suprise or a lucky packet, you know that there is something in there, but you just never know what you are going to get.
Me Time
Ideally, people would assume that when your kids are asleep that you will sleep then too. But just like this meme, where would you have time for yourself if you did that? Parents who spend their whole day devoted to their children do not get the time to just be with themselves doing things for themselves, so when the kids sleep, some of that time is devoted to “me time”.
This goes for both moms and dads, although they are parents full-time, they both equally need time to be people who are not parents, even if it is 20min, it's something.
Back off
Having help from your own parents or your parents-in-law can be an absolute blessing because let's face it, parents can use all the help they can get. But at the end of the day, when it's just you and your kids at home, things need to be done your way. Just as this meme shows, grandparents can get involved and try to take over the way people raise their kids.
But when it is obviously seen how they had raised their kids, parents might want them to back off of the raising part and just ask them to stick to the grandparenting part.
