We’ve heard of so many stories where co-actors fall madly in love and stay together after the production of the movie. Just look at Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. This turbulent love story also started - you guessed it, on the set! But not every collaboration ends in marriage and children. Sometimes it’s not easy to work with some people, especially if there is too much main ego - a common thing around with actors. Some movie sets had a real drama going on set, and not just when it comes to plot. Keep reading to find out which actors hated each other on set!
Michael Bay and Megan Fox
We all remember Megan Fox’s amazing scenes in the movies Transformers. Everyone enjoyed her performance but Megan did not seem to enjoy the movie set. She said her director, Michael Bay was a real dictator during the filming of the movie. She said that outside of the set Michael Bay was somewhat amusing since he was plain awkward, but in his director’s role, he was something like Napoleon or Hitler!
This confession was so bad that she got fired from the Transformers franchise. She was replaced with another actress but surely Megan Fox is the girl you think of when you hear Transformers.
Heather McDonald and Chelsea Handler
The Chelsea Lately Show might be very funny but behind the scenes, Heather McDonald did not have so much fun. She claims she lived in constant fear during the production of the show! “I enjoyed my time there, I was happy, but I mean something would happen and my heart would be beating and I would be like, ‘Is this it?’—you know? And then somehow I just managed to keep surviving” she claimed.
But Chelsea Handler did not restrain from further comments, she said she could have easily fired her if she wanted, and that she should be living in fear if she speaks that way.
Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross
Desperate Housewives show never lacked drama, intrigue, and complicated situations between main characters. Looks like the relationship was similar even behind the scenes. Teri Hatcher did not enjoy the company of her co-stars so much. Eva Longoria, Martia Cross, and Felicity Huffman were “girly girls” and they loved to hang out as Eva Longoria claimed, and Teri Hatcher was never a part of that company. She simply did not fit.
But the worst “beef” was between Teri and Marcia Cross and reportedly their relationship was very tense. It can be very rough on sets like that, where you film the whole day.
Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice
Ariana and Victoria were co-stars on a Nickelodeon show called Victorious. After the show was canceled, Ariana did not mince her words and pointed the blame directly at Victoria. She said Victoria chose to do a solo tour instead of a Nickelodeon tour which would have provided them another season of the show. "Sweetheart, the only reason Victorious ended is that 1 girl didn't want to do it," Grande wrote.
Ariana might seem shy but she does not fear calling out her colleagues who did her wrong, like Victoria Justice for example. She said “thank you, next” to her Nickelodeon co-star.
Betty White and Bea Arthur
These Golden Girls seemed like best friends on the show but the reality might not be as perfect as in the show. Similarity with the show was that Betty was always cheerful while Bea is more reserved, and often moody. Betty, who unfortunately died recently just a few weeks before turning 100, claimed that Bea did not care for her that much since she was always too cheerful.
Betty thinks she was a pain in Bea’s neck, which is misfortunate for their friendly relationship, but for their show dynamic, it was perfect. Betty and Bea always had a love-hate relationship.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Tyrese Gibson
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is for sure a big deal in Hollywood in recent times. You would think it would be a good thing for the movie production, but the set of Fast and Furious was not so excited about this big hit actor. Tyrese Gibson especially had a problem with this superstar. Since The Rock got a spinoff film, Hobbs & Shaw, the other actor felt like he was making the franchise all about himself.
But Johnson did not feel the need to jump into this beef. He stayed unbothered, stating that he does not feel the need to be a part of this one-sided problem.
Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush
One Tree Hill was a favorite show for a great number of teens and probably a few adults. They had a lot of drama in the show, and apparently behind the scenes also. This drama started with a relationship, as they usually do. Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush married in April 2005 and separated just a few months later in September 2005. You could just imagine how awkward it was.
Even though they had their differences in marriage, they continued to film the show until 2009. We can guess that for other cast members it wasn’t the best experience either.
Will Smith and Janet Hubert
This might be one of the most famous feuds between actors on set. Fresh Prince was such a big hit, and everyone wanted a piece of the fame. Of course, Will Smith got the most attention out of the whole cast, and Janet Hubert did not like it! In her words, she has never worked with such an egomaniac! Will Smith said that Hubert wanted the show to be all about aunt Vivian.
Things got so bad that by the end of season four Hubert had to be recast. Even regarding the beef, The Fresh Prince remains one of the most popular shows to this day.
Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad
The stars of the MTV show The Hills, Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad had a fight when Montag’s husband, Spencer Pratt falsely claimed that Conrad made a sex tape with her boyfriend. After that, Montag tried to make things right but she did not manage to get Conrad to forgive her. She said she feels like they are mature enough to forget about that and move on, but apparently, Conrad does not feel so.
“Lauren just holds grudges a little bit,” said Montag referring to Conrad as the problem in this situation. Hopefully, she and her husband apologized to Conrad for making such accusations.
Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn
These two actors stood together in a fantastic Christmas comedy called Four Christmases. You might think there was a problem with some kind of romantic entanglement, but the truth is actors just had different working styles. Reese wanted to rehearse everything and had a real scholarly approach, while Vaughn wanted to improvise the lines and just go with the flow. It would be enough for a disagreement on the set.
"Vince rolls onto the set in the morning looking like he just came in from a night out, while Reese will arrive early looking camera-ready," sources close to the set said.
George Takei and William Shatner
If you are a diehard Star Trek fan like us, you probably love the camaraderie on the USS Enterprise, but did you know that the cast members did not care for each other. George Takei and William Shatner had beef, where Takei called his colleague an egomaniac in many TV shows. But Captain Kirk took it even further, stating that Takei is psychotic and taking it all out on him.
These two actors did not spare any punches when commenting on each other, but it does not come as a big surprise when this kind of fame is in question.
Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp
These two actors are at the top when it comes to Hollywood. You would think that their mix would bring out the best collaboration since they are both so great, but the movie The Tourist proved otherwise. “Their chemistry was supposed to fly off the charts, but in private, they're not getting along," claimed the source close to the production. Both of them had a bad opinion about each other while filming.
Depp thought that Jolie was too full of herself, like a big diva, and Jolie was disappointed that Depp did not cut his hair and get into shape for the movie.
Blake Lively and Leighton Meester
For the biggest Gossip Girl fans, these two girls seemed like a perfect friend couple on screen and probably off-screen. But in reality, they did not have the best connection. Again, it was a matter of Hollywood vanity. Meester thought Lively was a big egomaniac, who viewed her time on the TV set as slumming. Also in her opinion, Blake was never too involved with her because she thought she had bigger things coming.
Blake Lively never tried to fight these claims, she just claimed that they were never supposed to be friends, they just worked together, and it was all about the job for her.
The Cast and Crew of 'Grey's Anatomy'
Everyone’s favorite medical team did not work so closely behind the scenes. Isaiah Washington used a homophobic slur towards T.R. Knight during an intense argument with Patrick Dempsey, which is what got him fired from the show. Even though he tried his best to give a public apology, he did not really manage to get himself back to the show, but merely just for a few guest appearances here and there.
The show creator infamously admitted that she did kill off her cast members because she did not like them. For many fans of the show, this was somewhat a shock.
Shonda Rhimes and Katherine Heigl
Continuing with Grey’s Anatomy, Katherine Heigl had a falling out with the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes. She earned an Emmy nomination for her great role as Izzy Stevens in 2008. She opted out of the role claiming she wasn't given enough quality material to even be considered for an Emmy. "I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials," Heigl claimed.
Even though they did not have a public beef, Rhimes did not allow Heigl to come back to the show when the actress expressed her desire to revisit her role.
Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny
This X-files tandem was a big hit with the fans and the co-stars seemed like such a power couple on-screen and you would say that they had some chemistry even outside the set. But it's completely the other way around. They both claimed they could not stand each other during the set and that they could have an argument about literally anything. Duchovny once commented on their situation saying that "Familiarity breeds contempt"
As you can see, it is not so uncommon that the actors who look like best friends in the show hate each other in real life. There is a lot of ego in Hollywood.
America Ferrera and Lindsay Lohan
America Ferrera had her big main character moment on her Ugly Betty show, and when Lindsey Lohan appeared as a guest star, she took a bit of Lohan's thunder. These two actresses did not get along at all, Ferrera hated the fact that there was someone so famous in the show. Especially Lindsey who was heavily followed by the media at that time. Ferrera wanted her out of the show.
Rumors say that she even managed to persuade the show's production to remove the infamous actress from the show. Looks like Ferrera could not stand anyone taking her thunder like that.
Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel
These two stars from the 2006 Disney musical phenomenon High School Musical who played twins in the show did not get along at all! Only in their Youtube video in 2017 did they say "We were not close. We were not good friends—let's be honest. It's been 10 years, so we can talk about it." They eventually did manage to build a solid friendship, but during the show it was rough.
But this does not surprise given that they were very young during the filming of this big show and the stress this level of fame brings is enormous for that age.
Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj
The first example on this list shows the actors are not the only ones having problems working together. Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj served as judges on American Idol. Sources close to this show claimed that Carey was the one who started the problems, always saying little things to provoke Nicki at the shooting. Mariah thought that Nicki should not be there as she in her words, “does not know to sing”.
Nicky has been cold-headed during all of this taking all the jabs Carey pointed out at her, but even she did not have the patience to take all that, and just lost it one day.
Stacy London and Clinton Kelly
These two fashion gurus had such a strong vibe on the TLC's makeover show What Not to Wear that it kept the show even more interesting. But Kelly later admitted that tensions between them were very strong during this show. I can’t stop people from the way they behave. I can’t stop them from being angry with me, hurtful to me, or indifferent to me," was London's comment for this feud.
"I can block ex-friends and ex-lovers, people I feel wronged by, but to what end? For the most part, these people aren’t even looking at my accounts in the first place” she wrote.
Naya Rivera and Lea Michele
These two Glee stars were often rumored to have a bad relationship and Naya Rivera who later died tragically wrote about that in her memoir, Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes and Growing Up. To quote from the memoir, “One of the Glee writers once said that Lea and I were like two sides of the same battery, and that about sums us up,", Rivera honestly commented on their working relationship.
Maybe these two would have a chance to become friends later, but as fate would decide, Rivera, unfortunately, lost her life in a tragic swimming accident a few years ago.
Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano
The two actors had their feud on the set of a WB show Charmed. The drama was so intense that Dorothy left the show after the third season. “There was too much drama on the set and not enough passion for the work. I'm 30 years old and I don't have time for drama in my life anymore." Dorothy once said in an interview. But the relationship did get better eventually.
Their relationship got so much better that they even decided to go on a vacation together. They started to speak much more, messaging on Twitter weekly, after so many years.
Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth
Shanon Doherty, again. It is not easy to work with this actress. These two actresses worked together on the '90s hit Beverly Hills: 90210. Again, she left the show after season four because of problems with her castmates. "We were locked in this sound stage for 14–16 hours every day. There were times when we loved each other and there were times when we wanted to claw each other's eyes out,"
This is what her colleague Shannen Doherty claimed about the relationship between them. But it remains unknown if Doherty got back together with Garth as she did with Alyssa Milano.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall
This is probably one of the most famous feuds between actors on set. Everyone loved the famous Sex and the City quartet, but Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall were the most famous. But their on-screen love did not seem to last in real life. The tensions were clear when the last movie was about to film. Kim simply did not want to work together with the cast, especially with Sarah Jessica Parker.
They tried to portray Kim Cattrall as the diva, who did not agree on the money, but diehard Sex and the City feel that Kim is an icon, and the problem is with the other ones.
Joan Crawford and Bette Davis
Joan Crawford and Bette Davis had a feud on the set of the movie What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? But get this, this feud was so big that it was the subject of the first season of Ryan Murphy's anthology series, Feud. This was not just a working disagreement, this was a real-life problem. The drama started when Crawford married Franchot Tone, who just happened to be the love of Davis' life.
Davis then claimed that she has never managed to forgive her for that and that she probably never will. Honestly, this is a matter where it would be hard to forgive.
Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte
These two actors worked together on a romantic comedy I Love Trouble but it was really hard to buy their chemistry. It just did not seem right. And it was for a reason. The actors just did not have a good relationship off-screen. "Roberts reportedly wasn't thrilled with Nolte's machismo, so she would deride and insult her co-star, and he became so annoyed with her attitude that he would do things to agitate her even more".
Sources say that the relationship between these two actors was so bad that they played more to stand-ins than to each other. Sometimes there is a connection, but sometimes it just does not work.
Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson
These two Gilmore Girls actors were rumored to outright hate each other behind the scenes. Their on-screen chemistry was amazing, but it did not repeat in real life." I think these characters have great chemistry and that does mirror our chemistry as people. We're not intimates." said Graham when asked about their relationship. Also, when asked if they were best friends," she gave a quick and definitive "no" as her answer.
Hopefully, this information will not interfere with your love for the Gilmore Girls show, their relationship on the show was portrayed almost perfectly without regard to the feud that they had.
Jerome Flynn and Lena Headey
These two actors worked together on the Game of Thrones set. And did you notice that even though they had multiple opportunities and good plot reasons to have met in Westeros, Flynn and Headey's Game of Thrones characters, Bronn and Cersei, never actually shared the screen? Thes two were once a couple and it did not end well, they aren't on speaking terms and refuse to work together on the show.
“Jerome and Lena aren't on speaking terms anymore and they are never in the same room at the same time," a source close to the production said about the working relationship.
Selma Blair and Charlie Sheen
Selma and Charlie worked together on the show Anger Management. Considering Charlie Sheen's "fun" lifestyle and the way he left Two and a Half Men it does not come as such a surprise that he had problems on the set of another show. Blair claims that she was not sure about his work ethic and he answered angrily, calling her bad words. Eventually, she left the show on his demand.
When asked about his least favorite co-stars he commented on Blair and Jenny McCarthy saying, "I'd like to mash those two together and then kick them to the curb. They deserve each other."
Debbie Reynolds and Gene Kelly
Singing in the Rain took our hearts and seems like a movie whose set was quite fun. Reynolds claimed that working with Kelly was very stressful for her since Kelly wasn’t the nicest person to be around. "He came to rehearsals and criticized everything I did and never gave me a word of encouragement," she said. "Gene took me tightly in his arms...and shoved his tongue down my throat. 'Eeew! What was that?”
This does not seem like an environment where it would be easy to work at all. “I screeched, breaking free of his grasp and spitting.” Acting can be gruesome sometimes.
Joan Collins and John Forsythe
These two Dynasty actors didn't talk for an entire season, revealed Collins on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live. This is what happened: "At the People's Choice Awards, we won as a whole company, and we were told that when we were being presented with the award, it was going to be given to John. However, they gave it to me. He didn't like that. I said, 'Oh, thank you very much”
“I'm going to give it to our fearless leader,” she continued to say, to which he replied 'She's said enough,' and that was it. And it was very unpleasant, I have to say. It wasn't nice."
Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley
These two Vampire Diaries stars had a good on-screen relationship, but off-screen, it did not go so easy. To be more correct, they could not stand each other. "I respected Paul Wesley, I didn't like Paul Wesley," said Dobrev. But the story has a happy end since they managed to work through their problems and became friends afterward. Eventually, she said that out of the whole cast she hung out with him the most.
“We hang out a lot. We're really good friends. And I love his wife. It's so funny how time changes everything because I never thought that he would be one of my best friends."
Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep
These two Hollywood legends worked together on a great drama, Kramer vs. Kramer and the situation was not the best among them. Marilyn once changed a scene with the production, and when Hoffman found out he was furious. “Meryl, why don't you stop carrying the flag for feminism and just act the scene.” he angrily said. Another incident is when Dustin slapped Meryl in a scene and didn't really hold back.
“This was my first movie, and it was my first take in my first movie, and he just slapped me. And you see it in the movie. It was overstepping." she said.
Miley Cyrus and Emily Osment
Miley Cyrus and Emily Osment were on-screen best friends in the show Hannah Montana. But it looks like it was not easy to film those scenes since they did not care for each other. “The show felt real to me, and I wanted my relationship with Lilly to feel real too. I knew it didn't have to—show business is show business–but I was disappointed” Miley Cyrus wrote in her memoir.
They just could not get along and Miley thought that they could never be friends again, but they did manage to stay friends after and even had a show reunion.
Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe
Probably many men’s wish during the last century was to kiss Marilyn Monroe at least once, but if you would ask Tony Curtis “It was like kissing Hitler." Pretty harsh words for a woman who has set beauty standards for the whole generation. The problem was their relationship before the movie. They were a real-life couple and by the beginning of the production, their feelings for each other changed heavily.
“It was awful. She nearly choked me to death by deliberately sticking her tongue down my throat into my windpipe." the actor said about the infamous kiss with the beautiful actress.
