We are sure that we have all used Google Earth to find special spots around the world. Whether it is to check out a holiday destination, what your house looks like from Google Earth’s view or to see if you were caught on camera while driving past the Google Street View car. Some people take some time to look through Google Earth shots and by doing so they have found some really wonderful, strange, and creepy shots. Take a look at these Google Earth images which you will either find amazing or strange.
A Town
This image, although hard to believe, is not from a pebble walkway from the front of someone’s house or an abstract painting hanging on a wall. This stunning site can be found in a town called Teguidda-n-Tessoumt. These vivid spots are actually salt extraction spots, where salt is extracted from clay, making it precious salts. Because the salt has been extracted from this area for many many years, it has created mounds around the salt ponds.
Even though a site like this would most likely look great as wall art, this site is just a display of the earth's natural offerings. Well, after humans dug it up.
The Pier
Out of the many things that can be seen on Google Earth, this one must be the most confusing and curious site. This image had everyone thinking that Google managed to snap a shot of a terrible crime in the act. And it does very well look like a dead or just bloody body was dragged along the pier and then potentially dumped into the lake under it, with the culprit still standing in views way.
But luckily, we know the real story, and a bloody body is not involved. At a closer look, it was just a dog who has jumped in the water and left a water trail behind once back on the pier.
Islands
This phenomenon may not look like much, but it is actually quite a rare occurrence. This is a recursive island or lake. It is an island inside a lake on an island. Read that tongue twister twice. This amazing site can be found in Luzon, a Philippine Island and it consists of Luzon Island, Taal Lake, Taal Volcano, Crater Lake, and Vulcan Point Island.
It seems though that in Canada you may also find a few of these recursive islands and lakes. So, if you are willing to carry a small boat over the islands to get to the middle lake, let us know what you find.
Lion
You can have a little taste of Africa in the small town of Dunstable in the United Kingdom with this amazing find. This creation was started in 1931 by a guy named R.B. Brooke-Greaves. It was made from chalk and was hidden during the second world war so that it couldn’t be used as a point of reference. In 1981 they even lit up the lion with light bulbs as part of the festivities for the 50th anniversary.
Although you won't be able to see the shape from the ground if you go visit it, at least know you will know what it looks like from above. It would sure be a "roaring" experience.
Perfect Spot
This may very well be the perfect Valentine's Day spot. In Colombia Station, Ohio you will find this beautiful heart-shaped lake. Considering how perfectly shaped this heart is, it is unlikely that it was naturally shaped like this. The trees and the path around it are also perfectly placed to enhance the lake's heart shape which would mean that these property owners have a lot of upkeep on their hands.
Although it is on private property, at least Google Earth can provide the world with this beautiful site. The best you could do to use this to show love is to snap it and send it as a postcard.
Art
Here is just another beautiful site that looks so good, it could be a piece of art. In Denver, Colorado lies Intrepid Potash, which is a fertilizer manufacturer. They are one of the biggest manufacturers of potassium chloride in the US. These very blue lakes are evaporation ponds, and they are bright blue because of the copper sulfate added in to make the evaporation process faster and help avoid the growth of bacteria and algae.
We would not encourage someone to go to these lakes to see them for themselves. However, there are certain spots one can stand at which are safe to view the lakes from.
Shaman
The world is filled with many wonderful marvels, some of which make no sense as to how they even came about. This image which shows what looks like a native man wearing a headdress and earphones is actually just a hill range. The cool image has formed from the weathered valley in the hills of medicine hat in Walsh, Alberta in Canada. The road in the middle is what makes it look like the headphones.
This interesting creation has even been given the name “The Badlands Guardian”. What kind of tunes do you think he would be listening to? We bet they are the shamanic type.
Lighthous
We should all know what lighthouses are used for, and if you did not know, their sole purpose is to warn boats of shallow waters or rocky areas. This lighthouse found in one of the Great Lakes is the Unites States, but there is something a little different about this one. Did you notice the circular waves around the lighthouse? Well, it doesn't come from loudspeakers as one may have thought.
This lighthouse was specially designed to make the waves create this circular motion to assist mariners to pass through safely without colliding their boats into rocks. It would've been cool though if the waves did come from music.
Maruyama Park
Cherry Blossom season in Japan is a sight that we are sure everyone would want to see. When the trees are blooming, Japan is covered with this beautiful pink dust of Cherry Blossoms. The Google Street View Car managed to get a beautiful shot of this Cherry Blossom Tress lit up in the evening in Maruyama Park in Kyoto, Japan. You can even use Google Earth to go through the whole park and see all the lit-up trees.
Japan is covered in these so we are sure there must be more shots around Japan on Google Earth besides this one. If you find some more, enjoy the beauty that Japan has to offer.
The Logo
You are looking at the biggest Coca-Cola logo in the world. This logo, which can be found in the Chilean Desert is made up of 70 000 glass coke bottles and unfortunately, no one really knows much about it. It used to read “100 anos” for 100 years but was later changed to “125 anos”. It seems like this massive logo has also been around for more than 30 years.
Funnily, KFC tried to "copy" the idea in 2006 by creating a logo that could be "seen from space". It was 65 000 feet wide but was soon after taken down.
Spiderweb
This Google Earth location may look like a compilation of neurons or a fun maze-like adventure, but it is actually none of the above. This sighting is in Rio Negro, Argentina and it is just oil fields. They have been digging oil there since before 1997 and the vast spiderweb patterns are evidence of the many years of oil finds. At a closer look, the fields run for miles and miles.
It seems like there are just more and more Google Earth sites that look like they belong in art museums than in the world. These oil rigs could make some good post-modern art.
Matrix Glitch
Could this be a glitch in the matrix or just a mirrored view? If you did not already know, these are the little Google Street View cars and this one was just lucky enough to be caught out by his fellow Google Street view car. These two cars passed each other while on the streets of San Antonio de Los Cobres in Argentina. One would think that they should at least wave at one another.
If you would like to be caught on one of these Street View cars too, just look out for the bright-colored vehicles with the fixed cameras on top. Just make sure you smile and wave.
Harry Alley
This one is for all the Harry Potter fans. For those who do not know what this is, this is the Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter movies. Even though this is not a real alley, the Warner Bros. Studio in London can be seen via Google Earth. All you need to do is switch to street-view on Google Earth and you can get a full 360° view of the full alley.
In the alley, you will be able to see "Weasley's Wizard Wheezes joke shop, Flourish, and Blotts bookshop, Ollivander's wand shop and Mr. Mulpepper's apothecary”. We are sure the Harry Potter fans wish apparition was real for this site.
The Colonel
Some companies can really take advertising tactics to the next level. However, with the option of "mapvertising" (ads that are visible from Google Earth), it seems there are no limits when it comes to marketing. This Colonel Sander is 87 500 square feet and is made from 65 000 one-foot tiles. This was also thought to be the world's largest logo; however, it came out that many logos were visible from space.
This giant Colonel Sanders situated in Rachel, Nevada can even be seen from space. If you are lucky enough to go into space, be sure to look out for it.
Seaweed Monster
Our world is filled when many wonderful and strange people, and if the timing is right, they can even be showcased on Google Earth, just like this guy. This so-called "Seaweed Monster" was just some random guy trying to scare people at the beach. But this guy is in a wetsuit, so perhaps he became entangled in the seaweed while surfing or swimming and took the opportunity to try to give everyone a good laugh.
He should have been careful though because with one good swoop someone could have hooked his seaweed “costume” off with a fishing net. At long as he was enjoying himself though, there is no harm in being this seaweed monster.
That Moment
People seem to be coming up with more and more creative ways to propose, from underwater diving to treasure hunting expeditions, the options are endless. But this guy went above and beyond to capture this special moment for the whole world to see for some time to come. Some people are able to take photos of sites that can be used on Google Earth and this guy took advantage of the opportunity.
Like many, if you have some fun adventures which can be added to Google Earth, use their options to upload your images with your stories. Of course, the whole world will be able to share that moment with you.
A Town
Assamakka is a small desert town in Niger, where this art-looking image is located. The site caught on Google Earth was how the town looked after a hectic sandstorm hit it. The blue square-looking parts are in fact roofs of houses within the. The sandstorm completed covered the building shut and if you look closely, you can even tell which direction the sandstorm was blowing in or was still blowing.
Being snowed in is one thing as at a point the snow will finally melt but being "sanded" in must be a difficult situation to get out of. Hopefully, the people in Assamakka have figured out how to get themselves out of that situation.
Mattel
Mattel was one of the many companies that joined in on the "mapvertising" trend and added a massive Mattel logo on the ground at their offices in El Segundo, California. Although this logo may not be big enough to see from space, you definitely cannot miss it if you are flying over it. The aim was to make it visible from the sky. However, you can access it from the ground if you would like to give it a look.
Mattel is one of the biggest toy manufacturing companies in the world. They manufactured the famous Barbie, amongst other popular branded toys. Hopefully, the logo works and people who fly over it have an itch to buy some toys.
Kamchatka
This Google Earth find had many people wondering exactly, where it came from, and not the country itself, but the location in terms of land or under the sea. The blue shades do somewhat give the illusion that it may have been taken from underwater, however, this is just a beautifully symmetrical volcano located in Russia on the Kamchatka Peninsula. You can even see the strange red residue shafts on the edges.
If you look closely, you can also see the site seems to be divided into 4 parts. Some believe it may have something to do with keeping secrets about missiles, do you think so too?
Shell
A shape like this looks just like that of a shell that you may find at the coast, but this shape in the sand is far from any coastal area. This weird shape that had many baffled was found in the desert at the Red Sea Governorate in Egypt. For years many thought it may have been a landing ground for the aliens or a portal to another dimension, but it was definitely not any of those.
In 1997 it was created as an art creation called “Desert Breath". But for those who do believe in aliens, at least the world does have a location that may work as a landing spot for them.
Too Old
Many shipwrecks all over the world can be seen from Google Earth but this one is one of the biggest shipwrecks. The S.S. Jassim sank in 2003, just off the coast of Sudan in Wingate. This cargo ship traveled from Bolivia when it capsized on the evening of 1 December. We also do not know exactly why or how it sank but it was first set into waters in 1961, so perhaps it was just too old for the rough waters.
This ship is not the only shipwreck in the area, but it has become quite popular for divers to explore. Maybe the divers would be able to find some evidence that would help explain how it sank.
The Guitar
In Argentina, you will find this beautiful symbol of music with a touching meaning behind it. This guitar forest was created in honor of Graciela Ureta, wife of Pedro Ureta. She sadly passed away in 1977 from a brain aneurysm, she was only 25 years old. She wanted to plant a design in their fields, but Pedro did not have the time to do it then. When she passed away, he planted the forest to honor her idea.
The guitar is multicolored with eucalyptus and cypress trees, from the ground view you will be able to see the arm of the guitar is purple. With the size of this forest, hopefully, Graciela can see this from Heaven.
Unicorns
If this sight does not have you thinking that there is an alternative universe where rainbow unicorns may exist, then maybe you should start thinking so. Nevertheless, realistically there is somewhat an explanation for how this rainbow airplane could have been caught on Google Earth. Some suggest that it was just the right timing from how the plane was turning, the speed and wind direction put together with the sun shining.
But to create the rainbow effect there must’ve been some mirror effect. The angle of the satellite could have also just have been at the right spot at the right time or had some sort of glare on it, I guess we will never really know for sure.
The Office
There are thousands of people who are caught by the Google Street View cars all over the world and a lot of the time the shots can be quite entertaining. Other times it can also be educational in the sense that it highlights some of the real-world human situations or just the crazy ones. But this image wasn't just by accident, this was planned by the Google office in London.
The team decided to all wear different hats and wait outside the offices just in time for when the Google Street View car was coming past. It was such a fun way to come full circle with Google Earth and its employees.
Just A Glitch
This image could spark a good remix for the song, "Oh when the saints go marching on" except they would be bodiless saints marching on. Luckily there is a perfectly understandable explanation for this Google Earth shot of random legs just walking around. This was taken past the Alaska Center of Performing Arts, and this isn’t some acting trick, it was just a technical glitch on the Street View car’s camera.
Although Google is one of the best tech companies in the world, they are not perfect and mistakes like these can be made. It also keeps things interesting for when people are exploring on Google Earth though.
Dark
It is not often that Google Earth may catch something which is perfectly fit for the moment compared to the views they are filming, but this one fits perfectly to its description. The Black Canyon Freeway in Arizona lived up to its name with this shot of it being pitch dark, with a very little number of cars on the road and miles of desert around it, the timing was perfect.
Interestingly enough, the road’s name has nothing to do with the darkness though, there is a whole story behind its name. And don’t worry, the 145.76-mile freeway isn’t this dark the whole way.
Stevies
If you have been lucky enough to be caught by a Google Street View car at some stage, the chances of that happening again are quite slim. For 4 years this van was spotted on Google Earth. The first 3 years it was in the same spot, but unfortunately the fourth year the car had just missed it, but you can see it coming down the road in the opposite direction.
The van obviously belongs to the business “Stevies” on the left and as long as the business stays there, we should surely see more shots of this van. It would be weird though if the business moved and the car caught it again.
Halloween
We have already established that Google Street View cars can capture some of the strangest sights, and this one can just join the list of the creepiest things that can be seen around the world. At first, it looks like a scene of panicked people pressed against a window, but once we knew the image was taken in October, we can all understand that these are just some Halloween decorations.
If you continue down the road via Google Street View, then you will see some other properties which have pumpkins outside their houses. Why don’t you put some creepy decorations up this year, perhaps your creepy looks will also make it on Google Earth?
The Rest
Remember the legs from earlier on? Well, I think we found the rest of the body that went along with them. This man was standing in New York with his New York City Ramones shirt when Google caught the street view. Just like the issue with the bodiless legs, this shot was also just another glitch in the camera. It seems like this is a recurring issue that Google Earth has had.
If you go through different areas on Google Earth, you should be able to find a few cut-off items, animals, and buildings. And that is all thanks to Google's glitches.
The March
In 2008 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the Google Street View car got the timing of his shot in perfectly to match up with this marching band. The band leader Ben Kinsley had choreographed the march for a parade through the streets of Sampsonia Way. It seemed like quite an impressive march considering how many people were photographing and videoing it from all different angles. If you moved further up the street, you could even catch the start of the march.
It would be great if Google could catch more parades which we would be able to see from Google Earth. It would be great for the rest of the world to see them from the comfort of their seats.
Classic
This guy decided to take advantage when seeing the Google Street View car coming down the street. In Victoria, Australia coming down Cecil Place he took the chance and threw out a classic dab in front of the camera, and luckily it was caught. Google usually blurs out faces on Google Earth, and to get back at this guy, they landed up blurring him out completely so you can’t even see his dab move anymore.
It makes things difficult for Google when people get in shots as they need to spend extra time having to blur the faces. So, if you want to be in a shot, maybe turn around so your face isn’t in it.
Turks
This massive flag was carved out and painted on the side of the hill in Kyrenia, Cyprus by Turkish soldiers. It is so big that you can see the crescent moon part of the flag in space, another thing to look out for if you’re ever up there. This Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus flag was painted in memory of the Turkish soldiers who lost their lives in Cyprus back in 1974.
Next to the colored flag is an additional flag of Turkey with the quote which says "Ne Mutlu Türküm Diyene". It means “How happy is the one who can say ‘I’m a Turk!”.
Love All Over
This sign could make some people's day if they saw it. A nice little reminder that there is love all around. This "Jesus Loves You" sight is one of the biggest of these signs in the world with each letter reaching about 31 feet long. The sign is in Boise National Forest in Boise, Idaho and you can get to it with a bit of a drive and a walk.
This sign can also be seen from space. Whoever created this sign must have had quite a bit of time available because it really is a massive piece of work.
Lips
These natural pursed lips are surprisingly not formed from a mountain top but rather from red and yellow sand and the right angle of the sun mirroring effects. The desert lips were found in Nyala, Sudan, and all that is missing which would make it the perfect image would be something to resemble two eyes, a nose, and (we know we are pushing it) a pair of ears as well.
It is quite amazing in today's world to be able to capture the earth's natural happenings. With Google Earth, there are more and more of these types of images that are coming out.
Baby
You don't need to take a double-take, we can reassure you that this is a baby randomly crawling, alone, in front of a storefront. It seems like this must be early morning as the stores are still closed and there are no people to be seen, not even the mother. The baby crawled around for some time, but we’ll never know if its mother had eventually realized her baby had gone on a little crawl.
If more Google Street View cars see scenes like this, perhaps Google should look into offering babysitting services when the cars are driving around. But hopefully, this is the one and the only baby on the loose Google Earth so that won't be necessary.
