Best Quibi Shows to Check Out Right Now

TvBee  | 4 years ago
Quibi ('quick bites') is a new mobile streaming platform, offering a variety of short-form videos. Each episode is less than 10 minutes long, and they are all vertically filmed and edited, in order to look best on a phone screen. The platform was launched in April 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak, and has suffered from low viewership as a result. However, don't let the weak launch turn you off - the platform offers a fun mix of shows, featuring some great casts – start by checking out these eight:

Survive

5 Episodes, action/drama.

What it’s about: Two young travelers survive a plane crash and find themselves in the middle of nowhere, in the midst of a snow storm. Together they will have to try to survive (duh) and return to civilization – but that’s only the beginning of their journey.

Cast: Sophie Turner, in her first TV role since Game of Thrones, and Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton).

Thanks a Million

10-episodes, heartwarming documentary.

What it’s about: Just like the movie Pay It Forward, only with bucketloads of money instead of good deeds. In each episode a different celebrity will give $100,000 to a person or an organization that changed his or her life, or that they believe in. The receivers, in their turn, give half the sum of the donation to a person who changed their lives, and so on and so on.

Cast: Jennifer Lopez, Kristen Bell, and Karlie Kloss, to name some of the ‘givers’.

Flipped

11-episodes, quirky comedy.

What it’s about: Jann and Cricket have a dream: to become TV’s hottest house-flipping couple. One day they come across a huge mysterious house in the middle of the desert, and decide to start renovating it – only to discover its walls have been used to hide the secrets of a dangerous Mexican cartel.

Cast: Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth) and Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are Jann and Cricket; with supporting roles by Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria.

Most Dangerous Game

12-episodes, action/drama.

What it’s about:
A terminally-ill man discovers a new way to secure the financial future of his pregnant wife: participate in a new scavenger-hunt-like game, where he’ll be paid big bucks for every hour he plays. There’s just one twist – the other players are going to try kill him, in many creative ways. Game on.

Cast: Liam Hemsworth plays the lead, with Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz as the game manager.

Gone Mental with Lior

7-supernatural episodes.

What it’s about: Each episode, Israeli mentalist Lior Suchard will meet a different celebrity (starting with football player Rob Gronkowski), and will try to blow their minds with some mind-reading stunts.

Cast: Celebrities like Kate Hudson, Ben Stiller, Zooey Deschanel and others.

When the Streetlights Go On

5-episodes, thriller.

What it’s about: In the summer of 1995, a murder investigation of a young girl stirs up not only the local police, but also the seemingly peaceful town where the crime took place. At the same time, the show also tells the story of a teenage boy – who might know more that he’s willing to admit at first.

Cast: Queen Latifah (rocking a banging wig) as the investigator determined to solve the murder, at all costs.

Gayme Show

7-episodes, game show.

What it’s about: Quibi offers a lot LGBTQ content (mainly on its documentary section), and Gayme Show is somewhere between a gameshow parody and an informative talk show. Every episode two straight celebrities will compete in various funny challenges, to see who is most worthy of an ‘honorary gay’ title.

Cast: Lesser-known comedians Matt Rogers and Dave Mizzoni are the hosts, with guests such as Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Ilana Glazer (Broad City) and Trixia Mettel and Bob the Drag Queen from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The Stranger

13-episodes, thriller.

What it’s about: An Uber female driver picks up a man who tells her that just before he got into her car, he’s murdered an entire family. She tries to run away and report him to the authorities – but he has no intention of letting her get away.
